98 Mounty 5.0L
The seller took my offer of $4k, so tomorrow I'll be bringing home a 98 V8 Mounty.

Thanks for all the help, I plan on quickly doing a tranny fluid flush and fixing some of the little things as well as a thorough cleaning.

Do you guys know any company that sells rubber mats for the car? The regular mats are pretty dirty on this car and since it's mainly utility/bad weather car, it'd be nice to have rubber/all purpose mats.

I guess I'm going to replace the bug deflector since I don't like having those clips on the front of the hood. What's a good deflector to get?

Anything else I should look into doing to a 98 V8 2wd w/ 110k miles (it recently had the plugs changed). Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I couldn't agree more. Fabric mats get freakin' dirty. I've bought two sets of rubber mats from this guy on eBay in the past. Unfortunately they say "Explorer" on them. Leads me to believe there is a Mountaineer version out there somewhere. Might also want to look at Husky Liner. High quality rubber mats from them.

Might be a good time to invest in an Elite membership to this site (best $20 you'll ever spend on your Mounty. Just think of the great advice you've got already. ;)

Congrats on the 5.0 purchase. You're gonna love that V8.

I got mine at Wally World (AKA: Wall Mart).....fronts go for about $8 per side and rears about $3-4 per side, nice gray rubber.....and thick w/ a lip around the edge to keep those spills from getting onto the carpet.

Aloha, Mark

I got Husky Liners from Summit Racing. They're a tray-looking sorta thing, keeps the mud and melted snow inside. Custom-fit for each vehicle, get them wherever you find them cheapest.
I have a Bugflector II, although after two Rangers and one Sport Trac all with different units I have yet to find one that actually deflects bugs very well. I look at it more as a paint protector. :p

Congrats on the new rig!

I just saw a universal fit set of grey rubber floor mats at wal-mart last night for 9.99. they will work great, custom fit ones are overrated in something that you are going to use/abuse.

As for the bug deflector, I got an AVS (Lund) at Advanced Auto Parts for 59.99, sometimes you can catch them on sale for 55 or so. See my review on this product

Check all maintnance, change fluids and filters, switch to a synthetic oil, any brand will do. Run a bottle of fuel system cleaner through it and you should be good to go!

Happy Mountaineering to you!

Congratulations. I bought my mats at the local pep boys for 55 front and back. I also got the bugflector 2 for 60. As JohnnyO stated, it really doesnt help with the bugs, it just looks cool.
