New speakers for my 06

coppe, those speakers replace the ones in the doors. no one will ever see them. the only thing that will take up any space is the amp and that can be mounted on the underside of the rear seats, thats what i did btw willied.

i put zip ties through the holes in the corners of the amp(they are meants for screws) but this way i can take it down easy and it wont leave any lasting marks on the car. idk what the underside of your seats looks like, but its a good place to mount the amp. its a very good idea to keep that amp out of sight, but it needs proper ventilation. they get hot and heat is bad for them.....

anyways, just the amp wiring kit left right?? i suspect you are anxious. lol. i would be. looking at these pics makes me want to go out and buy some new speakers and a new amp.

i believe my next upgrade will be 4 surface mounted tweeters, which i will run on my 40x4 amp, then replace the 4 door speakers with some better ones that can handle atleast 100watts rms, and add another 4 channel amp that puts out 100+ watts per channel! oooo baby that will be sweet

I actually got the amp wiring kit yesterday also, I just forgot to mention it. So now I have everything I need to do it, I just have to find some time. I'll probably do it on Sunday.

How did you mount it exactly with the zipties? I was hoping I could do something where I wouldn't have to make marks in the car. I test fit it under the seat and it fits fine under there as far as I can tell.

Also, should I cut off the amp power cable to the exact length it needs to be or should I coil some of it up in case I want to move the amp or something? I was thinking just go ahead and cut it to the correct length.

I'm glad I am inspiring you to upgrade some more...you should do it, that setup would sound awesome...

well...... now you got me thinking..... although i always thought that mounting the amp under the back seat limits the folding of the seat to create a flat surface and scratches the amps. But i will definitely look into it.

coppe- if you watched the vid link i posted last night you can see that indeed the rear seats can be layed down if you mount the amp properly. my amp has a little wear and tear, but its about 6 years old. plus i dont care what it looks like, i dont let anyone see it! there is alot of room under the front seats where you might be able to mount an amp, but people stick their feet under there and i would worry about them smashing wires or something. under the rear seats is a pretty safe spot. you could always put some kind of thin platic "shield" over the amp so it wont get scratched up.

video looks good, maybe i´m a little paranoid cause i´ve broken things under the seats in the past while folding them, and umbrella and whatnot (that i thought i left in a safe spot.... but well.... i guess this means i might start a quest for an amp, speakers, and maybe a sub for the stock location. I noticed my amps mounting holes are open-ended on one side so I can't mount it with the zipties...but I'll find some way.

Anyway, I'm soldering the Sony wiring harness to the adapter right now and it's slightly confusing...I'm not sure what to do with these wires.

The Sony harness has:
A light blue wire coming out that says ATT
Normal blue/white stripe that says AMP REM
Normal solid blue that says ANT REM

The adapter has:
4 Brown wires that say Mute on them
1 Blue wire that says Power Antenna on it
1 Pink wire that says Tel Mute on it
1 Orange/Black wire for Illumination
1 Orange/White wire for Dimming

The problem with the orange is that the Sony harness only has one orange/white wire coming out of it and it said to connect it to the Illumination wire so that's what I did and I just want to make sure that that's right.

AMP REM=amp remote obviously. thats the one you should use for the amp. i'm not sure what ATT means to be honest. i would think that is the wire to cut of the stereo for an incoming phone call. im assuming you dont need that so i wouldnt worry about that one. and the ANT REM, is for the antenna. do you have a power antenna? i dont. if you do have one hook it up if not leave it out.

as for all the dimmer wires/ilumination. i never fussed with the extra bs with my deck. lol, all i used were the power wires so i cant say for sure which to use.

so.....here is what i would do. i believe the point here is to make it so the lights on the deck dim when you turn on the heads lights/ilumination in the car. you know, the lights so you can see your heater controls and the gauges and all that. what that should do is dim the lights on the head unit a little bit at night so they dont blind you. pretty easy to figure this one out. once you have the amp wired for power just connect one of the orange wires and turn on the car. hit the headlights and see if it dims. if not try the other wire.

Alright, thanks. I don't have a power antenna so that's fine. I was wondering how you crimped the large ring terminals for the amp wiring? I see that you can buy a hammer style crimper for large wire applications. Is that what you used or what?

i just used some big pliers and shashed them then filled both ends with solder. use whatever works man

cool, you know your supposed to break in the speakers right? its hard to hold back, but try to keep the volume below about 60% for the first 20 or so hours of play time. if you want to crank it up for a minute to get a taste of your hard work and money go for it but for continuous play keep the volume down a bit till the speakers loosen up.

Thanks for the tip! I had heard about it for subs but I didn't think about it being for the door speakers.

yea i dont really know how big a deal it is. but i have heard that even the amps benefit from a break in period. on the other hand, i dont know anyone who destroyed a speaker by not breaking it in. i do it as precausion. and for subs, i dont know so much if its bad not to break them in slow, but i do know that subs definitly do not put out anywhere near their full potential until they are broken in. my experience with subs is they seem to sound better and better as they age.

I'm having some problems...did you put new speaker wire in from the speakers to the amp or did you splice into the old speaker wire? I also can't find where to put the amp power cable through the firewall, but since you have a different Explorer you probably can't help with that.

I got the HU hooked up and it works fine as far as I can tell.
