Just bought a kenwood excelon KDC-X889 and I need new speakers. I wont be buying a seperate amp, the headunit is enough for me. What some good replacement speakers? I dont want to spend too much, decent quality replacements are all I need.

Well, there are lots of good brands. I suggest you to go to Crutchfield.com and look within your price range and let us know which ones you think you like and we can go from there.

Will 2 ohm speakers like the infinity kappa perfects work without an external amp? I looked through the manual but couldnt find anything about impendance requirements.

no yuor deck power cannot handle a 2ohm load, 4 ohm only.

I highly recommend you look at Diamond Audio new co-axila 5x7" speakers as replacements.
In colorado they are available at ultimate electronics.
Very high quality speakers, made to fit in the factory door locations, do not color the sound like the Infinity speakers, rated at 60W RMS and are 4 ohm, but trust me tat 60 watt rating is for high end amps, I am pushing mine hard. Best sounding 5x67 I have heard.

As a second choice I would look for Boston Acoustics 5x7 co-axials.

Do you mind telling what you payed for them? They dont have any dealers within 100 miles of me, but I've been looking for them on ebay.

I ordered 2 pairs of the Diamond D37i's about a week ago and they should be here any day now. My deck puts out 20w rms, and I'm sure these will take that and ask for more. I think I am going to take advantage of my decks 5v preouts and get a 4 channel amp. I used to have a nice adcom in my old car, but they dont make them anymore and I'd like something on the same level. I'm looking at soundstream, alpine, and memphis audio, are these any good? Not looking to get real loud just enough to overcome road noise.

I've always found MB Quart and Boston Acoustic speakers to sound really good off of just HU power. Used to have Kicker Impulse 6.5" and they need more power and sounded like crap without a seperate amp. Just my 2 cents.

I second the MB Quart's and Bostons! Very crisp sounding and excellent quality. But thats my .02 !

Look for efficient speakers in the decks rms range, go have a listen at your stereo shop as well.

Just got an arc audio 4050-cxl (same as xxk), now I gotta figure out how to tune this and get all of my crossover, eq and gain settings right.
