1999 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi all,

I am trying to give my 99 explorer xlt 4x4 a 2" lift (I know I can't safely go higher then 2" via a tt), I put the shackles in already, and it pretty much just leveled out the truck. If I put in new springs, with that raise it a little more to the proper 2" lift above stock? my factory springs are pretty much just flat now, more noticeably flat now that the shackles are in.

Also, my mechanic at my work tried to see if he could turn the tt adjusting bolts, but no luck:(....we had my truck up on the lift to take all the pressure off...but all this was done last minute so I wasn't able to wd40 etc the blots first. Could that be why no turnage of the bolts or ?....there is about 1/4" of threads showing on the driver side and about 1/2" of threads on the passenger side....and I plan on putting 31x10.50x15" bfg all-terrain ta's on the truck after the lift part is done...maybe it'll give me an added inch or so haha

Thanks guys for any input, I appreciate it.
PS sorry for the long post

You're fighting Ford's overuse of industrial strength blue thread locker, the same used on the body mount bolts. Heating the bolt heads will soften the compound and make them easier to turn. Keep the tires off the ground and use a standard length 13mm six point socket. Judging by the amount of your threads showing, you may bottom out the bolts before getting to your desired height. Is so, use longer high grade M12 x 1.75 bolts, install camber kits, and get an alignment.

80's and 90's f150 springs will work there is a write up on it, yeah spray them and let them soak. My driver side is in all the way and passenger side most of the way it's normal.

thanks for the fast replies guys, really appreciate that :)....and yeah I thought about doing that, but then checked into pricing for new ones, $300 for the rear set brand new....so figured why not lol....so once the new springs are in, they will raise the rear of the truck so it'll actually look about 2" above stock?

I had that same problem I ended up doing an add a leaf in the rear with coil over shocks and I bought new torsion adjustor bolts from a dealership is was $5 for a set of 4 of them.
When I did my twist in the front I had my front end off the ground with no pressure on the control arms and I had to heat those bolts with my map gas torch it wasnt fun

I was at the end of the threads on the bolt , I changed out the torsion bars for alittle larger ones and now I have plenty of bolt and have my lift that I wanted with my winch on the front. I used it off road this past weekend and enjoyed it .
