I've got 135k on my 93 and I'm only on my second set of tires. I'm looking at some new michelins or the bfg ATs, I can get both for about $120 each. There is also a BFG commercial version, are they worth looking at? I think I need new wheels also because even when my existing michelins were new I had to put air in them periodically and it has gotten worse over time. In the tire size thread it says that I can fit a 31 on a 15x8, will these rub at all? Whats the biggest I can safely run without modification and where is a good place to buy wheels online? Thanks
I've done some research and decided to stick with my stock rims, and I can get the bfg at for $118 each. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with these but I've read that some rub and some dont, on the ones that do where do they rub and what fixes it?
I have had the best of luck with my michellin LTX's which have just over 90,000 on them and I would say that they have at least a 1/3 tred left. If you do get them make sure to get the LT version instead of the P version because the passanger version has a good amount of sidewall flex at all times and sometimes worries me offraod. They are great in all condition even on ice due to the factory sipping.
I would say that with a Gen I the largest that you are going to want to run are 31's if you are feeling lucky and 30's if you are a little more conservative. I would say that the larger tires will do you better and you will not hav e to wait until 200k to buy larger tires. As for rims I really like the look of the mickey thomson classic II's because they are "bling" w/o being "batta bling" and they are truely functional.
As for on-line tire stores take a look in your favorite wheelin' mag. They will not have the michellins listed but you may be able to order them. In the past it has been cheaper to go to the local tire shop and get everything as a package then to shop up with tires and rims and ask them to put them together.
I ended up going with the bfgs 31x10.5. The y fit fine and are real nice, the ltx s were what I had and they probably have close to 90k on them and still have trad left but they are cracking and the sidwalls have lots of cut in them.
I have a set of 15x8 centerline rims with 5 month old 32x11.50 r15 mud terran radial sxt for sell. They are a nice and aggresive tire.If interested let me know i give u pics and a sweet deal.
