I have 27,000 miles on my 08 limited an the tires are just about shot!!! Dosen't seem like enough mileage to me. Anyway don't think I will be going with stock replacements. What are the popular replacement tires for the stock michelin 235 65 18. Thanks. 27,000 miles......just not enough. Lol

Goodyear Fortera Tripple Tread is what I went with. They are made in the stock size so the match is perfect. They have excellent tread wear rating and are a great set. Tire Rack has some mixed reviews on them, but I am convinced the people writing some of those reviews have other problems (wheel bearings) wrong with their vehicles to cause the problems they describe.

I am looking at Michelin Cross Terrain SUV - P235/65R18 from sams club. they are $245 plus $15 a tire for install. sams claim they back by 6 years warranty.

any thoughts on Michelin tires or buying from sam's club?

Really disappointed with the mileage of the michelins.....I double checked the mileage....just over 26,000 miles....its like some sort of joke....

The various Michelin models tend to be the most highly rated (on tirerack, Consumer Reports, etc.) but you definitely pay for it - VERY expensive.

I'll probably be replacing my 18's later this year and I like the Firestone Destination LE and BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A Tour. Both seem to get average or better ratings and can be had for around $150 ea.

The Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza and Continental CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus are also possibilities.

When I bought my 06 with the Michellins it had 39 K miles and they were shot. Replaced with cheap Kuhmos and those lasted 60k miles which was excellend considering I only paid $ 500 for all 4 new ones. At 100 k I installed Bridgstone Duellers, and at 136 k miles, I should get another 10-15 I hope. I was also disapointed wityh the Michellins.

Are you saying you're satisfied with the Duelers or not? Are they H/T or H/L?

The Dueler H/T's are generally very poorly rated, though they came new on the lightly used Ex I bought (I'm guessing it had Michelins on it that were pretty much shot at only 20k miles when it was traded in) and I now have about 35k miles on them and they still have plenty of tread left. They've behaved pretty well during that time as well. Can't complain about them, but there are clearly better (and cheaper) choices out there.

I would consider the Kumho Solus too though these days they're only a few bucks cheaper than the Firestones or BG Goodriches.

The Duelers (I think I have HT's, and I upgraded to 265-60-18) perform well re: road noise, and also in the snow and rain - no complaints here. They just seem to wear faster than the Kuhmos, but not as fast as the Michellins.

I was considering Cooper Discoverer H/T at discount tire... haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I, too, was very disappointed in the Michelin Cross-Terrains on our '08 Mounty. After using Mich. LTX M/S for many years on the older Explorer and always seeing 60-90K miles, these were gone in about 25K. After some research, I replaced them with BFG Long Trail T/A's and now have over almost 30K on them. They still look great with lots of tread left. Ride and snow traction have been great, too, so I am happy with these.

I think I will try the bfg long trail, they are 160 each

I run Firestone Destination A/T on my 07 and they have been great.

I'm going to go with the Dunlop SP Sport Signature in 255/55R18 for my new to me 2006 Mountaineer Premier. Tire Rack has them for $138.00. My last pair of Dunlops lasted almost 100,000 (really!) on my 98 Mountaineer.

I was looking at the specs for the 255/55/18 the diameter is an inch smaller than the 235/65/18. If you can post some pics I bet it will look sharp, and let us know how many mph the spedo is off.

I've had BFG Long Trails on my 18" wheels for 1½ year now. They have been quiet and well-performing. This past winter was pretty mild, but the previous had a lot of snow, and they were great, especially with the AWD system. I haven't extrapolated the mileage, but they seem to be holding up well. At the time, they seemed to be the best bang for the buck, and highly recommended online, including here.

I have 63,000 miles on the original Hankook tires and still have descent thread left!! I'll probably replace them in December at 75,000.

I just got the Falcon wild peak, 265/60/18, they work pretty. we will see how the do in the snow. got them at sears.

Michelin's sucked for me. Had them on both of my 2006's and didn't like them at all. I have tried Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's and they were OK. Best tire for an SUV or truck in my opinion now is the BFG AT (BFGoodrich All Terrain) http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...l=All-Terrain+T/A+KO&partnum=675SR6ATAKORWLV2 There is no reason to buy anything else period unless you really have a need for a mud or rock terrain tire. Oh and just to cover any questions about them I have never lost fuel economy and no they are not noisy at all.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

If you want an all terrain tire then General Grabber AT2s are a good choice. They're similar to BFGoodrich All Terrains, but much cheaper.
