Hello all, I have a ranger with a 2000 explorer 5.0 in it.
I was wondering what mods you guys would recommend. So far I have fms e cam and a really great custom exhaust with mac headers, highflo cats and flomasters all true dual 2.5" I want to do something about the intake end and also maybe a little internal work, but anything you guys have to suggest would be most appreciated!
Thanks
Jason

You have the E-303 cam? Godd choice witht this particular motor. The heads you will have on the 200 should definetely be GT-40P heads so the cam should work excellent. The intake side I would go with a larger MAS and throttle bodie. I would go 77mm on the MAS and 70mm on the throttle bodie. If you try to go any larger on the throttle bodie you will have to have the intake port matched. The intake is already a good flowing intake and I really wouldn't soend 300-500 to replace it right now. It flows better than the cobra but not quite as good as the GT-40. With these mods that motor will hump trust me. We already built one just like it. I mean exactly like it. Except we went with 24lb injectors and a plenum spacer and ram air. Good luck and have fun building it.

Where do you get a loarger throttle body, I havent found any for the explorer intake, only mustnags, and they are a bit different. If you went with the mustang one how did you get it to work with the egr and tps and all that jazz?
Was the ram air for the motor specifically or did you modify it? I cant find any cold air intake I like. Was thinking of doing a custom tube at an exhaust shop and then the kkm intake with some hoemade heat sheild.

It came with 19lbs injectors. I wanted to change that but the temptation to prep it for supercharger was to high, I kept looking at the fuel rails wanting to get the vortech billet ones with 30 lb injectors and a 255 pump and and adjustable pressure regulator, (isnt that wierd that its returnless?) so I just left that end alone for now.
Thanks again for getting me started!!!

Hey you just have to buy the EGR spacer for a stang also and take the elbow out that is on the explorer. Then you can use the intake tube off the stang or make your own and we used the march ram air. But our motor went in a Nissan truck so we had the advantage of being able to cut and modify things. That's a huge fuel system you wanted to go with. I would only go with that if you had a supercharger. I hope some of this helps even though I know it is for a stang but it works atleast and is the only thing we could find also.

nice work man, it sounds a lot like my mill at the moment. you didn't say where your 5.0 came from though. with my 96 x 5.0 (with the gt40)on the intake side i have a big enough mas and tb to support like 350 hp so that wouldn't really make that much difference. the direction i would go in would be a charger or some nos. then also get some bigger injectors along with it. we were really surprized when we took the stuff apart and saw the mas and tb. they had been building a 5.0 mustang recently and had the stock parts laying around and the ones off the x flowed much, much better.

Our motor come from a wrecked 97 explorer. We already had a 5.0 built with the e-303 so we just swapped heads and intake. I bet you surpirse the hell out of some cars when you run them. Wish I could see there faces.:D I personally like the superchargers better. We want to go with the Paxton Novi 2000 on ours. But money is always an issue. All the guys I know running NOS have spent enough in a year to buy a supercharger. They seem to play with theres alot though. If you ever get some pics of yours let me know I would love to see them.

Well thank you guys all very much!
I dont want to do nos no need for it I have a trail rig. I think I will eventually supercharge it I have been eyeballin the explorerexpress one. Thus the large fuel system. I would have the regularor on about 22lbs for now then when the supercharger comes I can just turn a screw rather than change the fuel system all over again.
since I have a good exhaust I was thinking of doing the intake until its time for a rebuild, then I will go to town on it. I am nearly broke after buying the motor and tranny and all the swap stuff!
I am not sure about the elbow in the uper intake, it angles things away from the heater box. I suppose I could cut it but I want this to look very clean I live in California and I have a date with the local BAR refferee to get an engine change stamp, so everything has to look very emmissions compliant. So after hearing the great news about the tb and maf I am mainly looking for a way to get a better flowing tube and a conical filter. Any ideas?
Ideally I want about 100k out of this motor with inexpensive bolt ons then I will stroke it and or throw on a supercharger.
Thanks Again!!!
Jason
