- 97 V6 SOHC
Hi, I bought a 97 V6 SOHC Explorer 93K last week on eBay UK after my trusty Honda CRV died on the motorway. This will basically be my daily work horse so I need to keep it on the road.
We pay a bit more for fuel in this part of the world so mine runs on LPG (propane) - which takes a little bit of getting used to.
Good clean car but had some niggles with the idling and came across this site after being told by a local mechanic that I needed to replace the MAF and air intake hose for £300 ($600) parts alone!
What I know about what goes on under the hood you could write on the back of a postage stamp (I've been driving a Honda!) but I got the feeling the mechanic wasn't too clued up either. Explorers aren't too common over here.
Anyway after looking at some of the postings I took apart the MAF and IAC this morning and cleaned them up and sealed up a couple of tiny splits in the intake hose with some silicon and it's like I'm driving a different vehicle. Total investment? 2 hrs research, £5 for some caburettor cleaner and less than an hours work!
Really impressed with the site, liking my new Explorer, getting the feeling I'm gonna be needing to refer to this site a fair bit!
Cheers all.
