I'm Dan and i recently bought a 91 Explorer 4x4. Anyway i need help. I want to make this thing trail ready without sacrificing street driveability or safety. Also, if there are any notorious problems with the truck I should check out before I start work, I would like to know. Mainly what I am after is advice on where to start tire/wheels, lift, exhaust, ect. Also if you could provide any feedback on particualr brands of parts that work best please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Dan

welcome to the site... sorry with a 1995 and 2002 I can not help you.

Welcome to the site. The only bad thing to say about my old 92 is the tranny. Get a BIG tranny cooler, run sythetic fluid and change it when needed. As for the performance parts, use the search and type in what you are looking for. If you need it to be more specific, just ask in another thread.

Yeah, the tranny's on the 1st Gens seem to give way easier... I had mine replaced a couple years ago.

as for 'trail ready'... it depends what your looking for, there are alot of people that use 6" lifts and 33" tires with regears as a everyday driver. and still hold a 12-13 MPG average.

But depending on your budget....

Exhaust= Flowmasters (or other brand, depends what you want)
Tires= (totally by opinion) 31" BFG A/T KO
Lift= 4" Suspension or a 3" Bodt lift with spacers and shackles that will get you to about 4.5"
Wheels= 15x8 Rock Crawlers or American Racing.

Actually Ive had my 97 Explorer for almost 4 years. Im just now getting into offroading with it though. I could use some advice myself. BTW love Sarasota man I Used to live on Siesta Key.
