New to Me 2003 Ex Eddie 4x4 - First Post

Hey all...firstly, what a great forum. I have been lurking and found such great information. My son is off to college in the Fall and we bought a 2003 Eddie B 4x4 yesterday in SoCal for $5.5k. It has 150k mileage, but I am not overly fearful as we got it from the original owner and he has been really on top of maintenance from day 1, and all regularly recommended service has been done. He drove 100 miles roundtrip a day which were freeway.

I had a pre-purchase inspection done at the Ford dealer and they only found the need to replace the upper/lower ball joints...tie rod, alignment. However they noticed a slight whine in the rear differential. Should I be overly concerned about this? What is the fix??

We are already planning a few mods. Firstly painting the beige trim black...perhaps a slight spacer lift, and...???

Have you heard the rear diff whine yourself or are you just going off of the Ford mechanics word? Either way, some have had problems with the rear diff's and having a whiney noise coming from it. Some claim using "Royal Purple" gear oil quieted down the whine issue. Use the search box at the top of the forum and type in a search question regarding "rear diff whine or noise" for your year Explorer and it should pull up past posted topics on that subject. Good luck with the new truck.
