new to site. how do I release spare tire?

I do not have the owner manual and have been lucky enough not to have a flat. After crawling under the vehicle I cannot figure out how to lower the tire via the cable. thanks to any answers.

There is a small "hole" above the rear bumper in which you incert the removal tool and simply crank it up or down.

And the removal tool is located under the rear seat when you lift it forward, if I remember correctly. This is for a second gen. 4 door at least.

rhyno is correct on the removal tool. Lower the rear seat, and lift the flap behind the seats, and the 2 rods are located there. Connect those to the lug-wrench (there is a square hole in the center of it), insert the rods into the hole, and turn until the tire is lowered enough to remove. Replacing the tire is reverse to this.

And remember to grease that mechanism from time to time, particularly in regions where you can get it salted.

Had a freind whose spare winch froze up. Now this is on a cold, wet day so he has to spend some misery getting his spare loose. And, of course, when he got it down, it had very little air in it, had never been checked.

Yes, definately check the spare tire inflation every time you do an oil change (good time to remember) as part of your routine inspection. This is a Duh, but to make it easier, install the spare under the truck with the outside of the rim facing down. This will expose the rim to road debris, but will make the air valvestem easily accessible for checking.

Roger that good idea.

I check mine at each tire rotation (every 9000 miles).
