Well, this is the 1st post to the forum. We just picked up a "cheap" 1993 Explorer XLT 4 door 5-speed for a around town hauler for the company and are looking to do some upgrades and get it running as good as can be. Will enjoy reading your site.

Any advise on some things that can be done?

Thanks

Oh, sorry - moved them to a different server. They said they should work on that server. Sorry

Thanks for the welcome

well they are working now. It looks pretty good. I love mine with a 5speed.

Thanks. This is the 1st Explorer 4-door that I have ever seen with a 5-speed. Was this a common item ordered on these trucks?

Also, could someone please explain what is the difference between an Explorer XL and an Explorer XLT?

the T on the end of XL is the difrence.:D

My truck started as an XL. It came with manual windows, manual door locks, 5 speed, manual transfer case, manual hubs, and steel wheels.

I would die to have that. I want a 5 speed Explorer so bad.

I have a 92 5spd Explorer. I love it.

The Manual Explorers are very rare. 2nd Gen Manuals are even more rare.

Welcome!

XL was the base model. XLT had more standard features: alloy wheels instead of steel wheels; A/C and cruise control are standard; carpeted floor mats, etc.

My 1992 XLT has the 5-speed stick. I had to order it to get the manual trans. The salesman told me that only 10% of the Explorers were being mande with sticks. I think they were more common on the 2-door Explorer Sport.

I wish we could still get them with the manual trans!!! Very few SUV's are available with sticks: only the Nissan Xterra and maybe the Jeep Patriot, plus the Subes, (if you can call them SUV'S). Alas, more future shock.
