have you ever attempted a job like this before? what are your mechanical abilities? not sure if the 5 speed explroer has it, but i would first thing the crossmember and then the driveshaft/transfer case also removal of the transmission from the bellhousing/clutch

replace the throwout bearing while you are there, also i would replace the clutch and the pilot and the slave while down i nthat area, unless you know that they are good

I've done it on other cars but never on a x. So not sure what to expect or what i should remove, thought someone may have a trick or two up there sleve on removing it

do you have a chiltons or haynes manual? i have found that although they do "extra" steps, they are pretty close to what needs to actually be done..... my haynes manual helped out when swapping out my engine on my toyota a couple months ago... also, with the engine out, it really would not have been much more work to drop the transmission if needed.....

The R&R isn't too bad. You might get a little flustered getting the clutch bleed.

how long would you say it takes to do the job. also do you have to remove the exhaust.

2-4 hours would be my guess depending on tools, experience, and shop equipment.

Yeah IIRC, I dropped the exhaust.
