Just like many Explorer Owners i too have the rough idle problem. I bought myX alittle over a year ago and have had the problem since day one! Yet no one can find a problem?

Back in Dec i had a NEW IAC valve put on and this seemed to help some what. The new iac did take away the hesitation, every once in awhile the truck felt as though it wanted to stall...but never did! I also remember just before the iac was put on i had trouble turning the motor over, it would take a few good cranks till it finally turned! Just in the past few days all of this seems to be happening again. Im thinking the iac is shot again?

But here is my ? Does anyone have problems with their engine turning over? Mine would all ways start on the first turn, now within the past few days it takes a few turns!

Spark plugs and wires! Clean your MAF sensor and throttle body, too.

Im not 100% sure how often plugs and wires should be changed, but new plugs and wires were put on about 8 months ago!

8 months is cool... as long as they are gapped correctly. For giggles, you could pull the plugs to check for improper fuel/air mixing and burning.

Cleaning fuel injectors wouldn't be a bad idea. I cleaned mine with the run-rite system and I got a whole MPG more plus a tiny bit more power/response.

Ok great, i will add them to the list of things to do this weekend!;)

You also might not be getting enough fuel pressure at startup and/or in idle situations. Usual suspects: fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter.

Along those lines, definately clean the MAS, inspect the TB, replace the fuel filter, and clean the injectors. All are very common maintenance tricks.

RedBeard,

Where did you get your Run-rite system from?

Thanks

I actually had it done at Mr. Oil Change. There is a certain one I go to (been going there for years, trust them 100%).

There are three parts to the Run-Rite System... The injector cleaner, additive to fuel, additive to oil. I elected NOT to have oil additive... Just too much voodoo when it comes to adding things to your oil.

Thanks RedBeard,

I was under the imipression this was something I could do myself.

OK I will look around my area for a place that performs this service.

Thanks!!
