1994 Explorer Eddie Bauer
Hi everybody,

I own a 1994 Explorer 4x4 Eddie Bauer series, and happens that every morning when I start the car, the transmission begins whistling when in drive mode. Specially in every gear shift. After a while, say, 10 minutes or so, the sound dissapears. Does this mean I need to change oil, filter?? Or is it that the torque converter is getting old, and the whole tranny needs rebuilding?

Thanks in advance,

GAP:cool:

The first thing to do

is to drop the pan and check for a large quantity of metal particles. If the TC rubbing, it will be obvious from the amout of metal in the pan. How nasty does the fluid look and smell? A partially blocked filter can also cause pump whine. Parts are available internationally at bulkpart.com (min $100 US) if you are a do it yourself type. There are threads here on how to work on this easy transmission. Search A4LD.

Whistling Tranny

Thanks very much, Opera House for your tip. I was thinking of changing oil, filter and gaskets. But the tip about the metal is a good one!! Ill take a look.

Seems to be you love theses cars. I like them too. This is my second Explorer. But comes with almost the same problem, the transmission. I also semi own a Bronco II, 90, given it to my mother.

In two weeks I will perform the task. Next two weeks I will be travelling.

Thanks again,

GAP
