Hey, I'm just getting my licesne and I just purchased a 1995 Explorer XLT.

I'm really liking it and have always been into offroading but normally with Jeeps. I plan on doing alot but right now a lift and tires. I'd like to get 31s and a 2-3 inch lift. I'm young and don't have much money, so keep low prices in mind. Also, what would you say the biggest tire I could clear with my truck would be unlifted. I have pictures if interested.

Thanks.

Also, if you have any pictures of Explorers simialr to what I want please post them.

welcome to the site, most can clear 31's with no lift, but you can get a 2" lift by twisting your torsion bars and put shackles in the back soo that will cost $60! is that a cheap lift or what lol

Oh really? awesome..

I had heard about that but was'nt sure it would work.

Mind if I talk to you on AIM for some more info?

Welcome to the site! You will need an alignment with the torsion twist also. If it is a high mileage 95 a TT may be the last straw on your CV joints. I'd also make sure your ball joints are in decent shape.

I just got the ball joints replaced around 75 miles ago. Would you recommend doing the torision twist? Or should I go with something else.

The TT is a great way to fit a slightly larger tire without spending a lot of cash. With new ball joints, thats one less thing to overstress. Your CV will likely be fine, but a TT could be the last straw. If they are that bad they would go in the future. The only other cheap option is a body lift. This keeps all the factory geometry, frame and axle height, but lifts the cabin 2 or 3 inches from the frame, which allows you to fit a larger tire, and gives more clearance for exhaust and modifications where you add non factory components (transfer cases and the like).

What would you recommend as far as a cheap around 3 inch body lift and around how much would it run? Thanks

A 3in BL will run about $100. You can get one from summit racing equipment. Good luck and welcome.

I was also told for my year, I needed a 3 inch BL made for rangers..

I understand they didnt make the bl for the 4wd explorer after 94, so a 3 inch body lift made for rangers with the same year as my explorer will fit?

Thanks for all the answers

You can use a 2 inch body lift from a 91-94 Explorer.

welcome to the forum 95 and congrads on getting a 95 X.

Thanks, I plan of getting a 3 inch BL this christmas and some 31in mud or all terrians.

Will 31s fit on my stock rims or will those need to be replaced?

you can run 31s on stock wheels just fine. and you could even prolly fit them stock. when i lowered my truck 2" with 31s on i had no rubbing.(only did the lowering thing for a day..lol)

31's would probably rub if you didn't drive to avoid it. If I'm fully loaded down I can get my 30x9.5's to rub.

Yeah but i won't be getting my 31s until I get the 3 inch body lift, and that will be soon since I can run 31s on stock wheels. what is the exact diminison I should get to run them with stock rims?

with a 3" body lift I would run 33" tires, 31's would look small.

33x12.50x 15 or 16 depending on your stock rims.

every truck is different..some can run 31s with no rub stock and alot of room to go(like me) and some rub with 30s..its weird.

well, woudn't I have to regear with something over 33? or is that over 35? I need this to get decent gas milage as im only 16 and don't have loads of cash.

its not weird, not only do different trucks suspension sag differently over time, people add weight to their vehicles, etc

BUT

All tires are different.
You ever measured the height of a BFG KO 31" tire? It's closer to 30" then 31".
Same holds true for all brands.

You should regear with 31's too, but you can get away without it.
People drive with 33's on 3.37 gears all the time, but yes the ideal situation would be to re-gear. You jsut get further and further away from your engines and transmissions powerband/gear ratio's when you dont re-gear.

If you plan to keep 31's then maybe do no body lift at all and just do a torsio twist and shackles.
