Found this site looking for a cure for my dual media radio display problems and have been browsing dailey since. Great forum here guys.

On to my problem.
I've got a 2000 EB 4x4 with a bad wheel hub bearing and a leaky axle seal.
Every thing was going fine, had the parts, got her apart and was making pretty good time.
I'm now trying to get the seal back in and it's a no go. I've tried every trick I know and it almost appears the seal is just a squeze too big and I can't seem to get it started square. I ruined two seals before I called it a night. The aftermarket seals are a little different than the oem that came out. The oem had a slightly chamfered edge where the aftermarket seals have a more square shoulder.
Anybody have a suggestion? Perhaps some new fangled seal seater that takes the rubber lip into account for starting the seal square?
Thanks in advance for any help.

If I remember right the aftermarket seal is painted where it goes into the axle housing. You might try sanding the pain off and see if the seal will go in.

You wouldn't think that could cause a problem but I have seen this problem working in the industrial supplier field in the last 18 yrs.

**update**

For anyone looking to replace one of these seals I just went ahead and pulled the front axel out and replaced the seal on the bench. The seal is an extremely tight fit and was a pain to start square even on the bench.
On the bright side, the front axle is pretty light and not bad to remove.
Guess I'll do the shocks and front swaybar bushing next weekend. Any thoughts on shocks for a firm street ride as the wife doesn't do much off road driving. Looking at the KYB's, any input??
