Newb Needs Help...

Ok, I am sorry if this is not the right place to put this question and or it is a dumb question.

I read somewhere on this forum, I think, that you can raise your explorer a bit by making some minor tweeks to the stock suspension. Is this true? Is there a how to post on this?

I am just starting to mess with my Explorer, I have had cars modified many cars in the past but never a 4x4. I am wanting to take this truck a notch or two, nothing extreme as it is a daily driver still. Just get a little more clearance, put a little more pep in it's step. CAI, Exhaust, wheels and tires, etc...

Any help would be great!

The 02-05 EX's dont have torsion bars, so the torsion twist would not apply to our vehicles. You can, however, use spacers to achieve a lift. RoadBully seems to be the most popular.

Ok I have 2 more questions...
1. If I do the "Bully" Spacers (3" in front, 2.5" in the rear) what is the largest tire I can run without having any rubbing or having to cut up the wheel wells?

2. I have taken my entire stock airbox appart. I have looked at the "pre-fab" CAI and it appears to me that they eliminate a lot of hoses and such that are conected to the stock box. I am not very impressed with the "pre-fab" stuff that is available, so I am going to fabricate my own. I did this on my 04 Pontiac Grand Prix and it took my intake air avg from 110 degrees with my K&N "CAI", to about 10 degrees above ambient air. My question is what do I dont I need from the stock air box to not freak the truck out? I know I need to make the MAF work, what about that valve cover oil breather hose? Does it matter where in the line the MAF goes? I am assuming not.

I am really excited to get started modding this Expo and learn all the tricks! I am at a point with my pontiac that the only things left for me to do is hardcore internal work, putting 1.9 ratio Harlen Sharp Roller Rockers onto the car this weekend. It should get me into the 13.50's in the quarter, which I think is pretty good for a big old 4 door family car. I love this point in modding when the sky is the limit and you get to learn all about a new ride. I have had the truck for about 3 years and have been under the hood maybe 3 times. Sorry to be so long winded just excited to get started!

As far as tunning goes, do the Explorers have a pcm that can be flashed? Or does someone offer a upgraded PCM that is pre-programed that is just plug and play?

The hose that runs from the drivers side valve cover to the intake in between the MAF and the TB, can someone tell me what it is for and what happens if I remove it? I took it off while the truck was running yesterday and it seemed to change the idle a bit.

Not under the hood of mine right now, but:

Is this a nominal 1/2 rubber hose?

Why would you remove it?

If it is a vacuum hose, you need to put it back (obviously). If this is a oil vapor return hose, ditto.

I am fabricating my own CAI and I needed to know if it was something I need to work into the process. It just looks like where you would normaly have an oil breather. I have looked at all the CAI kits available and they do not appear to have an attatchment for that hose. They leave space for the MAF but I don't see where they provision for that hose. If someone has an aftermarket CAI and could chime in that would be great!
