Hi folks,

I just bought a 98 Explorer 4.0 SOHC. I've got a new CAI unit ready to install.

The stock air tube has 3 connections on it in addition to the MAF sensor. I've noticed that there is only 1 nipple on the new tube, presumably for the vacuum line. The second connection is for the IAT. I can drill a hole for the that and put a rubber grommet in there to get that connected.

Here's my question: the third connection will be for the PCV hose. Does anyone know where you can get a connector to put in the new CAI pipe that will fit the PCV hose? I'm hoping there is something either at an auto parts store or the local hardware store that will do, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm hoping to find something that is more or less made for it if possible.

Any help is appreciated! :)

Thanks,

Bob

Why not just leave the factory intake tube with a filter adapter on the MAF?

I had a CAI on mine but I noticed it would still get dust in the engine after driving down gravel.

What filter brand are you using?

I've used an Dead Link Removed with my CAI for years without incident. If you're really concerned about dust, consider a Dead Link Removed. I use one because it can get pretty dusty here and I figure it can't hurt.

It would be pretty easy to just bolt the filter on the end with the adapter to the MAF. I thought about doing that, and still might. I guess I'd like to put the new tube on it just because it looks cool! :D

LOL and lets add some neon under car lights and a bunch of stickers too!

Celly, I used a K&N filter on mine. I thought about a prefilter but the increase in airflow compared to a high quality factory replacement is probably not huge. If I mostly did street driving I wouldn't mind having the CAI on but for my gravel road travels and off road adventures it is not optimal.

Hey 00V8,

I tried to just put the filter on the end of the stock MAF. Wouldn't fit. The stock tube is too long, and it puts the new conical air filter into the fender. Oh well, I tried! :D

BTW, anybody have a hint on how to get the stock airbox out? It has 2 fasteners going into the fender, which look like they just pop out, and at least 2 in the floor of the box with no clue how to unfasten them. I want to keep the box in case I need to re-use it, so I don't want to break those fasteners.

After I get the box out, I'll be almost ready to put the CAI in. Looks like I'll have to drill 3 holes in the nice shiny new tube; 1 for the PCV hose, 1 for the temp. sensor, and 1 for the vacuum hose. THEN I should be able to put this thing in!!!
