I have a 2001 Ranger, supercab, 4.0,4X4, automatic transmission. I have 120,000 miles on the truck and the tranny has been acting up for the past 25 thousand miles. If I drive nice & easy, it will tend to shift kind of slow & lazy. If I drive faster, it will tend to shift fast & hard & if I drive just right it will shift fairly normal. I have become used to this, but my wife tends to have problems just trying to drive it normal. It never slips and has never let me down, but I am afraid it is coming. I had the fluid & filter changed in the tranny at 60,000 miles & it is due again. I will do this, but I don't think this is the cause of my problems. Has anyone else had similar problems with a Ranger of this year & transmission? Could this be an easy fix? Is there anything I should be looking for or at? Would I be better off buying a used tranny and swapping them out?
When I bought this truck, it had 40,000 miles. Runs like a top, but has never gotten better than 18 mpg on the highway. any tips on this also?
Any and all help & information will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to send me email.
