93' Explorer XLT
Ok, I got a 93' XLT with no modifications other than a dope Kicker equipped system. I would like to give it a beefier look and saw a 93' with a body lift and some bigger tires and it looked pretty good. I am 17 and dont have a ton of money but I think I could afford rims, tires, and a body lift and my friends are very very skilled in this area and could help install it. My question is how big of a lift (body), tires, rims do I need and should I do anything else? I have been looking through other threads and people keep saying something about a TT...what is that and how do I do it and how much does it cost? Any oher help woud be greatly appriciated....oh and if I do a body lift do I need to do anything with the bumpers or the steering and brake lines? Thanks alot and sorry for the long post.

I have a 3" BL and 31" tires. That is probably all you can get without a suspension lift.

first modi would have done

This was posted somewhere else but i think it helps so much. I think they called it the "zip" fix. First thing you do is get like 3 zip ties and then you follow your gas pedal up until the top where it hooks to the cable, pull the pedal foreward and put zip ties around the slack. This gives you WOT (wide open throttle), I just did this and its a very cheap kick, but works well.

lynchintha93x,
TT stands for Torsion Twist. You however, like me and everyone who have explorers from years 91-94 do not have the suspension setup that includes this option. We have a Independent Front Suspension system that is completely different, the Twin Traction Beam (TTB).

As far as your lift options, it all comes down to what you want your explorer to do. You need to ask yourself some questions. Are you going to go offroading? Do you want bigger tires just for show? How big of tires do you want? How much are you willing to spend?

If you want to go more places offroading, then a suspension lift is the way to go. The kits out there today allow your Ex to go places no stock Ex could possibly go. A suspension lift will also allow you to fit the biggest tires possible under the Ex. However, suspension lifts are expensive. I think the cheapest kits run around $400-$450 for about 2.5" of lift.

If you just want to run bigger tires, then a body lift is the way to go. The only real advantage to this is being able to run bigger tires. If that is all you want to do, great, perfect. Performance Accessories sells good kits, except for the &^$#*&# bumper relocation brackets. 2" kits run about $80, 3" kits, run about $100.

There is another option though, and its a good one. Its about the same price as body lift, but a LOT easier to install. If you only want about 1-2" of lift(to easily clear 31"x10.5" tires), I would suggest putting coil spacers under the front springs, and Warrior extended shackels in the rear. Its a very cheap "suspension lift" and won't take more than an afternoon to install.

Hope this helps. Do searches on any of this and you are bound to get volumes of info.

You'll have fun doing this.

Superlift 4" w/Shocks= $750.00
Body Lift 3"=$75.00

You can 31" Tires with either Body Lift or Suspension Lift. But need both for 33" tires.

Body lift is easy to with two people. Suspension lift can be tuff but with time and patience you can do it, again with two people.

Body lift can be done in about 6-8hrs, Suspension lift allow two full days.

Good Luck, you'll really enjoy it when completed.

You can see my truck at www.fordtruckworld.com then go to Galleries and then look up "92 Ford Exploder" in MO
