Im sorry to post questions I'm sure have been answered before but I've tried searching and I haven't been able to come up with anything for my specific model. I just bought a 2000 Explorer Sport with the 4.0 OHC engine in it. It seems that the two major performance upgrades that people do is the intake (kkm?) and a cat-back exhaust system. I can't find either of these that are available for my year and engine type however, and I was wondering if I've just overlooked something or are there really are no mods that I can do? I'm also interested in a brushgaurd but I dont know what different brands there are. Could anyone shed some light on this one? Finally I'm thinking about a billet grill, but again...I don't know where to get one! If anyone could be of some help to me I'd really appreciate it!!! Thanks.

George

do you mean sohc? i dont think there are many mods available for the sohc

...no I mean OHC. Thats what the window sticker says. Im not sure what the difference is however.

I'm guessing you want to replace the whole airbox. KKM is the only one that makes a replacement for 98 and up. However, they are not street legal in states that require emmissions certificate. They are only for offroad competition use. Check with your state laws about emmissions control. You can find them at www.kustomz.com. There is a replacement drop-in by K&N. As for catbacks, Borla and Gibson makes them for 2k and lower, both 50 state smog legal. Goto www.performanceproducts.com for all your questions. There are more sites, it just takes time to find them.

Thanks for the quick reply! The performance products link isnt working though...is there another way I should type it in? Thanks again.

George

I just checked also, their site is down. I found them through www.knfilters.com. That site also has other links to other online resellers. I emailed K&N with questions on their FIPK with no replies for 3 weeks. They only have them available up to 97 models.

sohc is the same as ohc

single over head cam over head cam

96SaleenS281,

another performance mod that a lot of people do is the chip. you can try www.smartyparts.com for superchips (hypertech is another popular brand), and try a search, youll find a ton of info on chips.

Since you brought up chips, 96Saleen281, there's a link to a car&driver article comparing chips before and after. Check it out. Lots of useful info.

The Explorer Comes With An OHV (Over Head Valve) 4.0L V6 245 Cubic Inches 160 Horse Power@4200 RPM / The SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) 4.0L V6 245 Cubic Inches 210 Horse Power @5250 RPM / And The 5.0L V8 302 Cubic Inces 215 Horse Power @4200 RPM.
Some Mods You Can Do Are A K&N Air Filter, And Pull The Silencer Box Out While You Have The Filter Out And Cut 5 More 1 1/2 Holes In It You Can Hear The Engine A Little More But You Can Gain About 4 Or 5 More Hp Also You Can Install A Super Chip I Have The 4.0 Liter V6 SOHC I Gained 21 Horse Power With The Chip With Just Those # Mods I Now Have 235 Hp VS 210 Hp.
Hope This Helps.
Terry

Thanks for the help you guys. Is the K&N filter the same for the OHV and the SOHC engines?

I am not sure, It would depend on the year. When i bought mine they wanted the year, model, engine size. And if it was an automatic or manual Trans.
