Hi all, I just bought a 94 explorer sport. Good condition, but has a few minor problems. First the A/C is always on. When I slide the temp lever over to the hot position it still blows ice cold air. I have noticed that the a/c compressor runs all the time. I found a vacuum line that was disconnected above the passengerside kick panel that I reconnected but it didn't solve anything. Second I noticed that the back side of the throttle plate is coated with thick black greasy grime. I wonder what the rest of the inside of the intake manifold looks like. Any suggestions on these problems are grealy appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums. Your A/C compressor clutch relay may be stuck in the closed position making it run all the time, if you remove that relay, does the clutch release?

Actually I should clarify what I meant. The a/c compressor cycles on and off about every 20 seconds, but it does it no matter if the a/c is turned on or off. On the dash you need to push in the fan switch for a/c, but I get a/c all the time. The little light near the switch does turn off and on when you push the switch. I hope that makes sense.

Sounds like maybe the switch in the dash is broken. I know you said the light turns on and off, but maybe something is stuck, and not releasing correctly.

You should be able to unplug the harness from the compressor and it not turn on/off at all, just stay simply off. That's how mine is right now becasue it's broken

Well I fixed the heater. It seems that the diaphram in the heater valve was stuck. I gently pushed it in and out and that freed it up. Works great now. I seafoamed the engine and it is running great. I may take the throttle body off so I can clean the butterfly. I still don't know why the a/c compressor cycles on and off when the a/c is off.
