next wheelin trip...

Hey, my grenade was due to improper steering set-up. When I put on the rims with the over-excessive backspacing to get more turning radius and keep the tires from rubbing on the radius arms, I over extended the limits of the steering u-joints. At full lock, they were hitting the yokes together and with mild throttle it kept blowing my u-joint caps off. Apparently, with just above mild throttle, it destroys the yoke. Now I have a new outer shaft and have adjusted the steering stops to eliminate the binding.

I put stops on both sides of both knuckles

I have stops, but I adjusted them too far with the tire and wheels I have. I just re-adjusted them so the steering u-joint yokes aren't touching anymore.

My stock stops on my axle wouldn't thread out far enough so I put longer grade 8 bolts and I have to replace them about every other trip because they are bent into an "S". Chris has the some problem with his ranger. Im going to make some sleves out of DOM on the lathe and see if that helps.

Hey, how much snow do you guys have right now?

I made it about 5 miles up twin lakes in the 2wd on Sat after boarding up at Baker. Snow got to deep :(

November 27 I am going to Elbe, Not running the Busy
Going with my friend John who went to Moab with me, he has a Toyota if anyone else wants to come along let me know and if you have not been to Elbe before we could meet up in the town of Elbe and then you could follow us up to the staging area.

I think I'll stick a little closer to home and fight with the Xmas tree hunters but,,, we'll see what conditions are like when the 27th rolls around.

Chris wants to try to hit evans on friday... still no tires for me so Im not sure what Im doing yet.

Don't need much tread at 4-6 psi AND you have a doubler, no worries!

I am "jack stand racing" right now, I have my old tires dismounted. 6psi? thats what I run all the time, more like 2-3;) I still think low tire pressure is the best "free" wheelin rig upgrade.

So what do you guys think? Should we try to do some kind of snow wheelin/day trip thing. Drive some FS roads untill we get stuck and have a fire? Any ideas on where and when?

ps, did you ever find your "clunk" noise?

Sounds like this Saturday, the 7220 road out of Wilkeson to the East headed toward Cedar Lake.

Doubtfull we will get there but it's worth a try??

I'm stuck in Oregon at the Mother-in-laws for the weekend.

So, where are we meeting and when??

The 410 Cafe? at 9:00am??

I am going to stick to my origanal plan and go to Elbe, I was thinking of Wilkerson but I did not replace that ball joint yet and have death wobble at anything over 15

I did find the root cause of me eating radiators, both engine mounts were loose and transmission crossmember was bent and had several cracks in it.
