no 4wd! please help!

hoping someone can help me on this...i went to put the truck in 4wd today and heard a terrible clunk... now the 4wd doesnt engage anymore, i've tried it a few times (going from 2 wheel to 4 but no luck)
My question is: can i still drive it reguarly meaning in 2wd, or should i get it towed to my mechanic and have him check it out? also any suggestions on what it might be will help alot, thanks in advance.

Mine does the same clunking sound. It also clunks going down the road when in 4wd. At one point my light for my 4wd low wouldn't go off. I hope somebody can help both of us.

I would think that you can still drive it in 2wd. My 92 goes clunk alot of times when I put it in 4wd, and it clunks really loud when i put it in 4 Low. When I put it in 4 Low, it clunks so hard and loud that you think the transfercase is going to fall off or something.
