So, after farting around a couple of years ago, it turns out my shift motor was shot. Not just the bushing either, it was fried. Replaced with a new one from Dorman, and she worked just fine for that winter, go to use it this winter and zilch, pushing the button doesn't even make the module click.
Module tests fine, have tried a couple of switches, so my next course of action was to take the shift motor off again.
Before I do, is it possible that a bad motor will cause the module to make no noise when I hit the 4x4 button? I don't think this motor has even 100 kilometers on it, unless it's just crap quality.

I'm this close to getting a damn Shiftster!

you really should periodically shift into 4wd and 4lo and back to 2wd in months when you dont use it normally. It isnt really good to just let the motor and tcase sit for 7months at a time without using it at all. this sitting may have caused the motor to freeze up.. just a thought though.

I'd suggest taking the motor apart. It's not really hard to do. Sometimes the brushes hang up and don't make good contact with the commutator due to tweaked slides or flashing on the brushes. While you're in there it is a good time to clean up the commutator if it is dirty or worn and check the spring tension on the brushes. Re-assembly is not too difficult; the only tricky part is keeping the brushes retracted as you slide the shaft with the commutator in between them. Power window motors are the same.
