I am new to the sight but have been searching around for a while trying to solve my problem with no luck. So here it goes...

I recentley purchased a 2004 Explorer xlt 4.0 at an auction. The only problem I could see that it had was the common blend door actuator. After putting about 100 miles on it I decided to change the actuator which with the help of this site was not that bad of a job. But here is the problem. I put it all back together and the blend door works but now the fan won't turn on on any setting and pushing the a/c button doesn't make the light come on.

I checked all the fuses and connections that I could find and everything is good. There is power to the fuse under the hood but there is not power to the plug that attaches to the fan speed selector knob. The only thing I am not sure of is if both connectors under the center consol were plugged in to something. I know that one plug is for the back seat power point but there is nothing plugged into the other plug which is located under the cup holders. I can't remeber if there was when I started or not. I can't find any loose wires laying around.

Any help would be appreciated. Its cold!

Thanks

If the fan blower worked before doing the blend door actuator repair, then I would go back and take apart everything you removed to do the blend door repair and check all of the connections again. You may have knocked a wire loose. Not 100% sure, but I wouldn't think any wire harness under the center floor console would have anything to do with the blower fan speed or AC buttons on the dash, unless you have rear heat and AC controls. If you have the Advance Trac system, you should have a button for it in front of the center console cup holders that has a wire harness plug going into it from under the console. It turns the Advance Trac system on and off. If I remember right, the plug for the Advance Trac button is bright orange in color.

I don't have the Advance track so maybe that is what the plug is for. It does have the rear seat heat and air controls which don't work, but I don't know if they worked before. I have checked everything I can check but I will do it again.

Any place between the fuse block under the hood and the plug at the selector knob to check for power?

Make sure that you check fuses 16, 25 and 30 under the dash. They support climate control.

It does sound like it is related to the repair, but here is something that you might want to check

Thanks for all the information. I am going to do some more digging around and I will let everyone know what I find out.

Well I spent another couple hours trying to find the problem with no results. I again checked all the fuses for continuity and then also with a voltage tester with the key on and every fuse tested good. I retraced my steps of replaceing the blend door actuator and I couldn't find any problem there. I traced the wiring harness from the selector switch to where it enters the large wiring harness under the dash and everything seems fine.

I took the plug off the back of the fan selector switch to test for power which there was none and I don't beleive there should be. I also took the plug off the fan motor and it also didn't have power to it. I put power to the motor and the motor operated as it should. It seems that the problem is between the fuse panel and the blower motor because from what I can understand the power goes directly to the fan motor and the selector switch only deals with the ground.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this system? What could be between the fuse panel and the motor that is not allowing electricity to pass?

This is my last shot bofore it goes to a mechanic.

Thanks for the help!
