A/C Light Problem 2004 Explorer

I am having the following problem with my 2004 Explorer hoping someone can shed some light, The A/C light on the controls will not always stay on for example yesterday I go in the car and it was one of the first hot days in a while and the A/C was blowing ice cold and then the light goes out and the a/c will just blow with out it being cold after playing with either the fan switch or the air flow knob or hitting the switch a few times I can usually get the light to come back on and the air will blow cold again... I am kind of at a lost with this...

Possible you may have low refrigerant, and it is shutting down because of it.
