No Brake Lights, no Hazards

yeah, I was wiring up an illuminating switch, and I was tapping into the fuse bx for power to it, and I accidentally sparked one of the fuses... now, here's the wierd part...

1) it wasn't the fuse that controlled either the brake lights or the hazards. (it controlled the turn signals, which still worked)
2) the fuse that sparked didn't blow, but I replaced it anyway, and I still had no brake lights or hazards. I even checked the fuses that are supposed to control those two items (seperate fuses) and they were fine.

I can't figure this out. I haven't got ahold of a voltmeter yet to test the brake switch, but I'm starting to worry about my 2 hour highway drive on friday and my weekend of wheeling with people behind me and no brake lights now. :(

Do your tail lights flash when you turn on the turn signal, or just the front ones? Do the front lights flash when you have the hazards on?

The only thing I can think of that the tail lights have in common with lighting up when you push the brakes and when turn the hazard flasher on is the multi-function switch (turn signal switch).

the taillights do flash with the turn signals, and nothing happens front or rear with the hazards.

ok, I just checked both the 12v at the brake switch and at the fuse panel, and there is no power coming into the fuse panel. so what's that mean then?? I doubt there's a ground b4 the fuse panel, if so, it could be loose. please help.

bump.... please help

No power at the fuse box sounds like you blew a fuse in the distribution block under the hood, or you cooked a fusable link.

Another thing to check is the multi-function switch in the steering column. It does control turn signals and hazards, but brake light circuit also goes through there since the brake lights share a bulb with the blinkers on a first gen.

if its in the Distribution Box under the hood, which fuse would it be?? I've looked at the marking under there to see what each fuse "protects", and none of them seem like they would have anything to do with the brake lights. And I don't THINK its the multiswitch, b/c my turn signals work still.

Cant hurt to check every fuse. Doesn't take very long.

I think I'm goin to have to, b/c here's my newest list of everything that isn't working right now::

Brake Lights
Hazard Lights
Cigarette Lighter
Cruise Control
Horn
Flash-to-Pass

I think I need to stop being lazy (aka tapping into the fuse panel for poswer) and run all my power straight from the battery.
