"No crank" question.

Came out of work today and engine would not crank.
No sign of a problem this morning.
I followed the no crank procedure.
Have voltage at pin 85 of relay.

My question, can the starter or relay go bad that quick?
Where is the relay? On starter?

I still have to check the wires going to the starter and relay, but I have no reason to believe they are faulty "all of a sudden".

I need some advice fellas,this is my DD. Had to come in and warm up the fingers.

OK, did you try a jump start? If this worked I would suspect the battery connections.
I myself have overlooked them as i had just recently"greased them. Big no no to grease the battery terminals on newer trucks.

If the jump start did not work, there is a braided power lead directly on the starter which I have seen develop a bad connection

I tried jump start.
I have 15 volts at the relay.
I will try looking for the braided line.
Havnt had a chance to get under the truck yet.
 






It was the starter.

BTW...new starter came with a new lead going to the selonoid and a note that said Ford has had a problem with the wire corroding and causing a no crank issue.

Also,right before I was going to push my truck(not easy,friggin tank!)into the garage I decided to hit the key one last time.Boom!...started right up,pulled inside,shut it off,tried the key...nothing.

Sooo,I replaced the wire also.Starts right up but the starter has that cheap whine sound to it now.

Anyway thanks for the help.
