Just bought a 04 Ex 4wd and the owners guide says it has a sealed trans, no dip stick. Only serviced by Ford. There must be a way to do this. What gives!

yeah A LOT of manufacturers are doing that now.

PITA for us independant shops, and DYI folk.

I just recently changed the fluid / filter on my girlfriends 02 Cavilear with a sealed trans. There was a filler plug on top of the trans. I was careful and made sure to put the same amount in that I took out. Using gallon jugs, I got 2 gallons and 1 gallon = 4 quarts, so I put in 8 quarts.

most new vehicles are going to this. I purchased a fluid exchange unit for my business. Its hooks up to your compessor and forces to old fluid out with the new. $100.00 is the going rate down here for this service

what???
i think we need a photo or a link please!!!! :D

Transmission fluid exchangers hook up inline with the tranny cooler lines. They have 2 tanks, one for new and one for used fluid, and they put in new as it removes old fluid, pretty basic. On the drain pan of your '04 trans. is a small fill plug that goes up a stand pipe to check and fill the unit. I don't recommend trying to check the level yourself, as it takes experience to know when the level is correct. Basically, if it is not leaking, the level should be fine.
