I have a stock single CD, cassette, AM/FM radio in my 1999 Ford Explorer XLT. Recently, the display has completely gone out. This includes the clock, station, track number, volume, etc. This is intermittent as the display comes back occasionally but only for a short time. That tells me that it isn't a burned out bulb.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

This is a very common problem, many people have attempted to fix this. I just bought an aftermarket deck. Search up about it and see how people fix it. It involves taking the deck apart and everything though.

No, no bulb. That would be too easy ;) There is a problem with the power supply boards in these radios(specifically the ones with the RDS button). These can be repaired, Most repairs are around $100. Good Luck.

i had the same problem. there was a post on here on how to fix it. It involves opening the radio up and re-soldering a few connections. It took me like 15 minutes and have not had any problems since.

The answer is a nice kenwood from www.crutchfield.com you can get a good one for under 200 bones and they give you all the stuff you need to install it.

Is anyone else thinking that this is something Ford should cover since it is such a common problem? Has anyone looked into this? Maybe a mass petition and letters to Billy Ford (CEO) and/or Nick Scheele (President)?

Display Repair

Pull the radio and send it off to
VCR Service,
288 Washington St.,
Weymouth, MA 02188
781-337-6800.

It cost $111.00 including shipping back and turnaround time was less than four days. It now works great.

 :exp:
