Thanks for the welcome aboard!!! Need help. Have a clicking sound in the dash when I turn the heat on. There is no heat, just cold air. Was told a door is stuck or broke and may cost 500 plus to fix.....The clicking goes away when i turn it back to cold....Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks:us:

Hope this helps out!

Did you use the following procedure:

Temp all the way to cold before removing old actuator

Test new actuator by turning temp to hot and then all the way back to cold

Make sure actuator shaft has completed moving before turning off ignition key

This procedure makes sure that both the blend door & the actuator are in the cold position.

It is possible that you have an issue with the blend door itself.

10 Second Temporary Fix for Beld Door Actuator Problem
This thread will help you so you can get heat. Like I said in the PM I just sent you the thermostat shouldn't have anything to do with it, being that my 98 has an always open thermostat, its a cold ride, but it will heat up.

And Rondo knows blend door problems and fixes much better than I do.

I have a 1996 Explorer XLT and After reading posts on the Blend door problems, I feared the worst, but the door was actually not broken.
The Actuator motor does NOT click or do anything.
How do I TEST my actuator?
(It was 39 degrees in the truck and in frustration I am afraid I lost my temper and kicked on the bottom of the Blend door housing. The heat suddenly came on!)
But I want to fix this problem. One person mentioned that you can use a 9volt battery, but they didn't know exactly how to do so.

39 degrees.............that's t-shirt weather. Just kidding.

If you can get the actuator out, leave it connected and turn the temp dial from cold to hot and you should see the shaft moving.

Hope this helps out. :biggthump

Yes that helps.
It does move.
The Blend door just seems to get stuck.
Dont know if junk is in there or what.
The ols guy that sold it to us said he had never used the heat, just the A/c.
maybe that is why it was stuck.

I am not familiar with the blend door on the '96 as I have an '02. Try heading over to the Stock 1995 - 2001 Explorers sub-forum and see if you can find anything over there. Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!

I've been reading alot about the blend door. But not sure if it's my problem. My front heater fan doesnt turn on anymore. The back one is fine.
