No more engine light!

Well, since my TB install I was getting a check engine light. I ran a scanner and got an EGR code. I came on here, and determined I needed a new DPFE. Got that today, and put it on. I drove and was still getting the light. I then remembered I hadn't reset the battery. Kept the negative terminal off for half an hour and then drove again. This time NO LIGHT! This has been a great day. Only problem is, I accidentally put the wrong bolt to attach the DPFE so I went through my intake manifold a little bit. Still runs fine though!

Check engine light

Being a shade tree mechanic I recently replaced the plugs and wires on my explorer and ckeaned the throttle body. It now has a check engine light on. I noticed in your message you took the battery cable off to reset it. Will this work for me? The light was not on before i did the work.

Did you scan and see what code triggered the CEL?

No, I have no access to one. Is there a way to test it before scanning it.

Go to an AutoZone store and get them to scan it for you.

Without the code, you do not know the source of the CEL.

Thanks to Ya'll, how do you like this Texas slang, I dropped the negative cable off for 30 minutes and this reset my check engine light.

your cel is probrally triggered by mixing up one of the plug wires

Don't you worry, we've got plenty o' country boys on this forum (and ALOT of friggin' texans too ) It'll take more than a y'all (which say on a regular basis) to throw us off...

Anyway, check 'yer plug wires. Is it running rough or missing or anything? If you had a plug wire wrong, it shouldn't run right. If the CEL comes back, find an AutoZone and get the code and then do a search for it here. I guarantee the answer is hidden on this board!
