No power to front wheels AWD

Doesn't seem to be, but I have an axle going bad that could be masking the noise.

Put in in P and apply parking brake. Grab the shafts with your hand and see if you can rotate them. If they rotate a bit, see exactly what moves.

SoNic67-

With the truck in park and the parking brake applied what would you expect when you try to turn the front and rear drive shafts by hand?

I have an AWD Mountaineer and the rear drive shaft feels normal to me. It has very little rotational movement (lash) but the front shaft has 20 degrees or so of lash. Both drive shafts feel stable in the transfer case.

I am asking because I hear a metal on metal sound (not bad but audible) both under acceleration or deceleration. The only time you don't hear it is neutral throttle (no load either way) like going down a hill with just a touch of throttle.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Hank

P.S. Happy Easter!

There wasn't much movement when I turned the driveshaft.

Well, this one didn't have too much play either (not my truck):

Someone got their money's worth out of that one!
