I have a 94 explorer with 158000 miles. I've owned it for five years and 30,000 miles. It never had what I considered much power.

It would stumble and miss if trying to pull a long Interstate hill in overdrive. Acted like it was geared way to high and usually got better milage running in drive.

It gradually got worse until it would barely run.

I changed the fuel filter which got it running as good as it ever did since I had. Then the fuel pump quit.

I installed a new pump and it's back to running the same way, drop to drive to go uphill, sometimes worse, sometimes not as bad.

I put in new plugs and wires.

The check engine comes on when warmed up. I had it checked a while ago and the mechanic said it the EGR sensor and to bring it in sometime to have it changed. He didn't seem too concerned, so naturally it never got done. Last time I was at NAPA we checked the computer, they show nothing that looks like the sensor on my motor.

So where do I go now.

Thanks
Rich

If the check engine light is coming on, and you're getting an EGR code, I would focus on that. Was it a KOEO 3xx code? Those are usually the DPFE sensor (though it could be a bad connection in the circuit).

(what is a DPFE sensor?)

if it was a egr problem, whould this effect the way it runs? It seems that if the egr is stuck open, the engine would breath a little freer and if closed, well isn't that the way it's suposed to be?

Or am I backward.

thanks guys

I'll check this out.

now do any of you know about chevys? or is that a taboo subject.
