No reverse on my '96 Ex

Hi, this is my first post on this forum.

I've got a '96 Ex 4x4 and yesterday the reverse failed

All other gears works perfect! I believe I have a cracked rev band because I have power in 1. gear manual but no engine brake.

I really don't want to rebuild the tranny due to the price, I'm from Norway and a rebuild here costs about 4400$!!

The question is: Is there any shortcuts to replacing the rev band? Or is it the last component to be removed from the transmission housing?

No shortcuts , you must remove transmission and fully dissemble to replace band.

Yup. Everything has to be out because the reverse band is almost at the end of the tailshaft.

Hmm... I feared that I'd get that answer.

Well, since my wife needs the car yesterday I've started to remove the gearbox today.

It seems to be very tight between the TC and the fuel tank, do i have to move the tank out of the way in order to get the TC removed?

Remove the speedo gear with a 11mm socket to avoid it from hitting and breaking against gas tank when it swings down. It's a pull out slightly and swing down motion to get it off. I did it actually five times within three weeks and the first time I did break the speedo gear assembly, cost me 23.00 for a new one from Advance. It's a tight fit but will come in and out. It'll be even be more fun putting it back up but help to have a extra helping hand.

Tanx.... One more thing: Are my vehicle assembled with metric or imperial nuts and bolts?
I can't really figure that out....
