2002 Explorer
I have a 2002 explorer with 4.6. Been reading the forum for the past few days looking for info. So I apologize if this is an over posted subject. I think that I have read that I have the 5R55E tranny.

Here's the situation. When accelerating under load , the tranny will not shift. When I start off under normal execration from a light the rpms will go up as far as I'll let them. It will eventually shift but will shift quicker if I let my foot off the gas (no load). When cruising on the interstate and I try to accelerate it will not down shift. Made for a great trip through the Rocky Mountains this past weekend. There is also some bumping and clunking when I apply the gas pedal after letting off the gas to make it shift. It's like it's searching for the gear. It will also buck when driving consistently under 30 mph. When I get up to 35 it's smooth. I can also down shift manually.

Also, I don't think I'm getting lockout with the TCC. Here's the reason. When driving with the cruise on down hill the truck is picking up speed. We're talking 6 and 7% grades. I must explain that this is the wife's Explorer so I don't drive it much. My daily driver is a '95 GMC Safari. My experience with that truck is that when cruise control is engaged, it holds the speed pretty close when going down these same grades.

under full load I'm assuming you mean WOT with the throttle to the floor?
