Hello,

So, 1st off just before I bought the 91 explorer that I have now (had it 2 years), the previous owners had the stereo completely rewired with monster cable performed horribly by circut city. Now the problem is that all of a sudden, no sound comes out of the speakers. The HU lights up, reads and plays the CD but nothing comes from the speakers. As things were starting to go sour with the sound when I placed my foot near the drivers side kick panel the sound would "crack" and fizzle on and off, until I had to wiggle my foot (and hit my foot) against the side. Until one day it went out completely. So a tore everything apart and so far nothing has helped. I did find two wires that were cut from the e-brake (which I have allready wire nutted back together). But still no sound.

Any help would be great, thanks!

btw, 1st post... :salute:

thanks for the quick response. I'll get reading...

yeah, i know on my sony head unit, there were two wires that i had to connect or else i would get the same thing you are. this is what was happening to me:
there's a wire in the ford harness, that goes TO the factory amplifier, and if it didn't have a signal, it wouldn't play anything through the speakers. this wire had to be connected to a wire coming out of the radio, it would tell the amplifier the radio was on and to play music.

ALSO. there is a fuse under the steering wheel, right next to the emergency brake for the amplifier, and if that goes out it'll give you the same symptom. my money is on the fuse, i'm not sure which one it is but just go up underneath, and start checking the fuses

good luck with it

When that happened to me, it was time for a new head unit. If you have one available to you, try swapping it in to see if you speakers work. If they do, head unit is bad. If not, then it could be a wiring issue like everyone else has said.

okay, all the fuses are good, there is one all-metal one that is near the amplifier fuse that I'm not sure about, I pulled out the radio again and was looking at things, it would seem as if they never grounded the HU, but would it even turn on if it wasnt grounded? also, yellow is power, and on my HU there is a blue wire that goes to remote. What does remote mean?

I found one wire that had come undone, so I got some connectors and re-crimpted it (it went to the rear right speaker), and still no sound. I checked all the other connections and it looks good.

Thanks Again for all the help on this

Note: everything did work when I bought it, would the wiring on the HU suddenly have a problem when it used to work fine?
