99 Explorer Sport 4.0l oh
Yeah, I was on my way to school this morning and I started to hear this clicking noise from the rear end of my 99 explorer sport. I thought it was coming from my rear left wheel but my sister said she could hear it on her side as well. In the end we decided that there was a higher probability that it was coming from my side. The noise is a ticking (or clicking) that speeds up or slows down according to whatever speed I am going. My question is, has this ever happened to anyone? And what part of the brakes or suspension may be causing it.

more info.....is it constant? how loud? any shaking?

might just be a rock or nail in your tire, thats what it usually is...if not might be your carrier or bearings....

Start with the simple stuff.. make sure you don't have a rock or something stuck in the tread. If it is brake related, the noise will usually change as the brakes are applied. See if the noise goes away if you put it in neutral when the truck is still moving.

It is constant and loud enough to be heard over an ohv engine at 3000 rpm:rolleyes: I am at work so I cannot check it until tomorrow when the sun comes up. About the brakes, it clicks the same whether or not the brakes are applied.
