Vehicle is a 95 2 door Explorer-Expedition. It is basically an Eddie Bauer. It has the audiophile JBL sound system with front/rear speakers & sub in the back right corner. All equipment is 100% original, with no modifications; I am the original owner. Problem is white noise that comes across right rear speaker ONLY. I have switched speakers in rear; noise stays on right side. Both front channels work fine. Symptom occurs with radio or cassette as audio source. The noise level remains constant--not a function of the volume. It seems to be time/temp dependent--as the speaker is fine for first 10 min of use, then the noise abruptly starts & completely takes over the right speaker. I visually inspected the right wiring harness at the rear right speaker & all looks OK--no obvious shorts/opens. This began suddenly about (1) month ago. I have not had any electrical work done recently on the vehicle; there have been no other issues with the vehicle. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

We have a 95 Limited 4 door and it's doing the EXACT same thing. I was just about to post something and ran across this.

Popping/static noise intermittent. It's becoming more frequent and annoying. Does this on radio/tape/cd and only from Right Rear door speaker.

Can anyone help us???

Nick

Other than switching to an aftermarket head unit i'm not to sure where to begin. I know that the first gens had some changes in 93 to the wiring harnesses. They added some noise suppression capacitors and such to them because of this problem. I would guess that the wires for that speaker pass close enough to a magnetic noise source (ignition, blower motor wires etc.) and pick it up.

Try turning on and off different stuff in different combinations to isolate the noise source. It could be anything.

Its possible too that this particular circut could be going bad in the amp or headunit and that it could be a common problem with those units.

hope this helps,

My guess it's either the amp or the headunit. I just don't want to start throwing parts at it.... what are my options?
