I developed a slight noise when I apply my brakes. Only have 40,000 on the vehicle, and a lot of it is highway miles. Took it to the dealer and they said that the breaks pads are okey and have about 5,000 miles left, however, the noise is coming from rust on the rotors. Said this was a common problem and wouldn't do any damage, however, Ford has come out with new rotors that correct the problem. That is they correct it after I pay $550 for the dealer to install them. Told him I would think about it. The noise is very slight, and doesn't bother me, however, I am having trouble with their diagnoses. The dealer said this was "common" - anyone else had the same problem?

Im pretty skeptical that Ford came out with new rotors that are "rust proof".

I would just do the brakes before the 5K miles are up, and have the rotors turned at the same time you replace the pads. If you do it yourself, make sure to grease the caliper pins at the same time.

Ford factory rotors are $81each for fronts and $86 each for rears from www.fordpartsnetwork.com

I bought replacements from Napa for less than that, the rear ones were only $35 each, but the fronts were about $70 each.

my brakes have been slightly squeaky since I bought the truck. Brake pads are great.. look damn near new when I took a look at 'em due to the squeak.

It's not always there on mine though. It generally goes away after a little while of drivin through town.

some pads are more prone to squeak then others.... a lot of the returns we have at work are on cars that have the raybestos red pads.... the paint hits the rotors and cuases squeak.... they should just not paint the stupid things... like their quietstop pads....
