My X has had a bad thermostat for some time now, It never went off Cold. I finally replaced it today, and now it cycles to normal temp, then I am assuming, it opens, because the guage goes back down and continues this cycle. I would think that would be fine, but have looked on here, and am not too sure. Please tell me what is normal for the gauge to do. As if these trucks are normal in anything.

Thanks
Shaun

So it hits normal, then the guage drops back down to cool, and keeps doing this? If this is what its doing, thats a little odd... I replaced mine not too long ago(running cold due to 92deg stat  ) And now it is always running in the normal zone, except upon startup.

that is exactly what it does, i am gonna get my coolant flushed tomorrow, maybe there is just air in the system now??

under normal operation, it should at around 1/3 - 1/2 up the temp guage

BTT...any other info?

I have the same problem. Does anybody have any tips on changing the t-stat?

easy, take off shroud over Throttle body, remove/loosen belt(not necissary but owuld make it easier, and remove 3 bolts. Not hard at all.

PS....I am the best speller in the world.

Thermostat

My Themo gauge has just started acting weird.
it cycles between mid range and 75% of Hot.
The engine light even went on briefly. the hand will go to almost the hot indicator anfd then it will return to 50% and cycles. The truck gets driven MAYBE a few days a week. I'm freaking out cuz I'm leaving for Colorado in a couple of days. Is this all an indication that the thermo is going out? It's not modified in any way.

Coolant Good
Oil Good

I would say it is time to change out that thermostat. Make sure the system gets burped once you re-add coolant to it. warm the truck with the radiator cap off, make sure it warms up to the point that the thermostat opens. Then add more coolant to top it off. Also, if you put a new one in, make sure the small hole, or ball check valve is at the 12 oclock position. Also.....Welcome to the Board. ;)

Thanks for the infor. The explorers on this site are rad.
