The local Tampa, FL, TV news ( WTVT ) just announced a SUV rollover with fatalities. Guess what kind of SUV? You, an Explorer. No more details were provided.

Damn, that sucks. it's suprising that even with the high rollover reports that ford explorers still are such a great seller.

becuase they look so damn good!

I really don't know if Explorers are more prone to roll over. My old Durango seemed to be more prone but then again I was a younger guy then and may have driven faster.

rollovers at all are 99% mostly the drivers crappy driving

Agreed. But that same crappy driving in a car usually won't result in a rollover. I guess that's why they make such a big deal out of it. One guy on the board rolled his X buy skidding out then hitting a curb to the side. A car would have bounced but a truck goes right down :(

those EE sway bars are sounding better and better as my next mod...

After owning two sportracs I truley do believe they are tippy but cannot comment on the rest of the EX models.
My solution was to drop mine 1 1/2 inch, roll on tires that have a 10 inch footprint, install good shocks and an EE bar, feels like a slotcar now

here is the thing.
It is well documented Ford Explorer is the most popular SUV in sales.
So, lets say there is 1,000 Explorers, and 10 of every thing else.
Simple math will dictate that Explorers will roll over more because there is more of them to roll over.

Lets all say it together
" WELL DUH !!!!!!!! "

Sorry, I haven't researched this quote, but PBS isn't usually known for printing outright lies:
Is the Ford Explorer more rollover-prone than the dozens of other SUVs?

No. According to federal data and safety ratings, the four-door Explorer's rollover record is pretty typical of midsize SUVs.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/rollover/etc/before.html

I haven't found any federal stats to back that yet, but when you start searching the web, you'll find out a huge number of the sites talking about Explorer rollovers (even some quoted directly by news sources) are paid for or run by lawyers. That alone says volumes.

Thing is, as the most popular SUV in the world, I'd say the Explorer is almost guaranteed to have the highest percentage of totally clueless people driving it. Thus, the truck itself may be even less rollover prone than statistics might indicate.

I love my Ex, but you have to admit that people who know zip about trucks and 4x4 don't tend to buy Jeeps :)

Not to hijack the thread but....

Do it!! Trust me, it'd be the best mod you ever did! I just got mine last week and was by far the best money i've spent on my truck. The new handling is absolutely incredible. I never thought an SUV could handle like that! Don't delay! Dave V. told me that when they run out of their current supply of EE swaybars, they're going to raise the price because of a more expensive metal they're going to use. I'm assuming thats the truth, so act now! I can't say enough good things about the swaybar! :D

I knew that
I sufferd a brain enjury when I fell outa my mommas bottom, have had a ford ever since.
EE bar rules, just do it

I sell appliances @ Sears.

Ask any of our Service Guys what brand they are called out for on Service Calls the most. Every single one of them will tell you that they get MORE calls for service on Kenmore Appliances more than any other brand! Then I would ask you to check your latest edition of Consumer Reports. Check the 'reliability' and over all scores that the Kenmore Appliances get across the board (Washer/Dryer, Dishwashers, Refrigerators, Vacuums, Microwaves, Microwave/Hood Combinations, Ranges, Cooktops and Wallovens)..........Kenmore will ALWAYS be in the Top 3 overall, and the #1 or #2 most Reliable Brand. Kenmore is ALSO America's #1 Best Selling Appliance Brand (4 out of 5 homes have a Kenmore Appliance, 9 out of 10 homes have an Appliance bought @ Sears)

What does this mean to us, here on an Explorer site?

We drive the #1 most popular SUV on the market. It has been #1 for about 10 years. When there are MORE out there, more will break. But I would bet my paycheck that the RATIO of accidents and/or rollovers was about the same as the REST of the SUVs.
