??O/D light + Check engine light??

Hi,
My O/D off light is flashing, after driving five or six miles the check engine light comes on. I know O/D off light means transmission. ($2689.00) Does the check engine light stem from the transmission failure or is that another problem I have to deal with

i'd get the codes checked and work from there.

Take a look at your throttle position sensor. That can cause both lights. Does yours shift hard both up and down? I had the flashing O/D light associated with hard shifts. Replaced the TSP...two years with no problems.

Yep if there's something wrong with the MAF or the TPS it will cause both lights to come on.

Thanks for the info guys. I was told by the dealer, "transmission is gone bye bye". I had the *@$#% thing replaced. Plus the TSP ($3500.00) oooouch!! Thanks again.

Ouch. Geez that's one of the most expensive tranny jobs I have ever heard of. Did you even try to reset the computer first?

Was there hard shifting, or the truck would not move in any gears? Skip a gear or lock up?

Please tell me there was somthing, otherwise the dealer might have just screwed you out of $3500. With no symptoms of tranny failure it's very possible it's just the TPS and they totally screwed you.

Yes there was hard shifting when going from 1 to 2 and when down shifting 2 to 1.

About a year ago on my way to Florida a oxygen sensor went out. Then on the way back another O2 sensor went out. The day after I returned, my O/D light came on went to the dealer they told me tran going out right r worng after hearing the cost I told them I would drive it tell the thing dropped. Now a year later it starts with the check engine and O/D light. what next?? I would like to trade my Ex in but could not recoop the money spent and to tell you the truth I love the damn thing.

I think you got screwed my friend. Mine did the exact same thing. Flashing light and hard shifts between 1 & 2 both up and down. TSP fixed it $60! The damn dealers know very few people will screw with their trannys and they tend to make "money gone bye bye".
Show me a dealer mechanic and I'll show you a good target practice opportunity.

Yep same thing with me. 21 bucks at autozone and 5 minutes later and it was shifting perfect again.

I just can not convince the wife.
She has dubbed my Ex, (hog) for all the money it eats. ya she is a little upset about it. A day or so before this we had talked about us using the money to beaf up her Supra and add to the Ex. Now, added to Ex and no beaf for the Supra.
