My wife was coming home from school tonight and she said the O/D Off light started flashing. I asked her if the truck did anything odd and she said that when she was backing out of her parking spot the truck stalled a couple of times then the light came on. I drove it here to work and everything was OK. Any ideas about why it did that?

When my light started flashing i had to rebuild my entire tranny, $2000 worth, hopefully thats not ur problem!

Sorry !

Mine was flashing for a while. When I took it in had the code downloaded. Sorry mine said " Incorrect gears in 4th " That was why my tranny was slipping.

Sorry for the bad news. Get the code Downloaded it should give you a fault code. Just hope it's not the same as Mine & Slick's. I had 120,000 miles on mine before the rebuild. I guess that's good for a tranny!

I'm with Slick on this one. Same thing happened to me but the tranny wouldn't stay in OD. It had to be rebuilt.

Sorry to say it, but same thing, first OD, then D then R, just do what i'm doing, put a standard shift in it!!!

Happy trailes!

Upstate X,
I would do 2 things. First have a shop drop the pan and replace the tranny filter. Second if the light is still on upon restarting, disconnect the bettery for 20 minuts and plug it back in. The light should not flash anymore. If it starts to flash again, then I would get it checked out at ford. mine flashed at me at 85,000 miles along with a wierd shift from 2nd gear to 3rd. Well, I disconnected the battery and didn't see the light for another 6K miles. it still would sometimes shift wierd, but it was never not driveable. In your case I am wondering if you tranny filter may not be clogged.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad that I've found a board with so many helpful people. Well it has been 3 days and it hasn't done it since.
