O2 sensors

Just a quick question, but if and when the O2 sensors go bad, do they through a code? I mean will I get a check engine light or get a code when a reader is hooked up?
Any thought on this would be greatly appreciated

They will throw a code, and you'll probably end up running pig rich to compensate.

Depends on which way they go bad. Some can go on one end of the spectrum and be rich other times they will go bad and the vehicle will be lean. -j

I ask because it's funny how everything you read states poor gas milage due to "bad" o2 sensors. I remember changin them in my Impala SS and when I did I noticed increased MPG, yet there was no CEL thrown.

Its best to not depend on a trouble code(s) but to scan their function.
