I was wondering if there is anyway to retrieve the obd2 codes from my 2002 explorer. I know my jeep buddys can do this by cycling the ignition a few times and it comes up on the odometer or by flashing the check engine light. Is there anything like this on ford ?

Go to autozone or a parts place. Most places will read them for free. Or you can buy your own reader for like $65 from wal-mart

You need to use an OBD2 code reader or scanner.

DIY trouble codes. Using Analog Voltmeter or test light.

Connect analog voltmeter to data link connector located in engine compartment. When a diagnostic trouble code is reported on the analog voltmeter for a functional test, it will represent itself as a pulsing or sweeping movement of the voltmeter’s needle across the dial face.

Accessing diagnostic trouble codes. Use the Analog voltmeter or Test light method, not both.
