I have a 95 X and I was wondering whether someone knew if it had OBD-I or OBD-II. I have and OBD-II scanner and i was told that if you use it on the wrong system, it can do damage.

You're OBD-I. The last year of it too. :D Don't know about the scanner.

the OBD-II connector wil not fit on a ODB-I system. Also the II connectors are under dash. The I's are underhood. So whoever said it could cause damage didn't know what they were talking about.. it cannot even hook up!

Also I am betting you have a code reader, not a scanner. the OBD-I did not output data stream for a true scanner to read (with rare exceptions, like the Sequential Fuel Injection Tauruses or example).

'95s have the connector under the dash. From what I'm told it will only read air bag codes. The ECC one is attached to the front of the power distribution box.

I would say your ODB-II .. Easiest way to figure out is look at your cat.. If you have a oxegen sensor in pre and after cat its ODB-II if you just have one oxegen sensor and its pre-cat than you have ODB-I ...

My 95 Ranger is a ODB-II vehicle even though 95 was supposedly the last year for ODB-I ... I would assume the made the Explorers ODB-II since they went to a new body style, why change everything a year after they start the new production? Start it early..

'95s are OBD-I on Explorers. It seemed to be the transitional year for Ford, because I have seen other Fords (Ranger, Lincolns, etc) that were OBD-II, but the Ex was still OBD-I.

Todd is correct, the '95 Exs do have the OBD-II connector under the dash, but if you plug a normal scanner in it, you will just get an Error.

I can confirm that the 95 is OBD-I. It does have the OBD-II connector under the dash, but CEL data is not sent to it. I had my code read once, and using OBD-II got nothing. Found the OBD-I connector under the hood and cleared the CEL.
