Had a starting problem with my '01 Mountaineer yesterday. It Started fine cold, but after warm up it would not restart. I managed to get it started and back in my driveway, to not be able to restart it.
I hooked up my OBD11 scanner and tried to pull codes, but was not able to get a sync. I worked with it a while and was able to get some codes (later found it was in "Simulate Mode"). So last night I was chasing down info on the 12 codes I saw.
I went back out today to try to isolate and still had issues getting codes. After getting the truck started, I still could not get a good read on codes. I hooked the computer up to my wife's Fiat and Walla - Read the Fiat and I was able to get all the real time stats with no trouble. Back to the Mountaineer, and I could not get a read.
Come to find out, the "Simulate Mode" only gave a sample code of what the display looks like. It had me chasing all kinds of unrelated crap.
Now , I still cannot get the plug to read on the Mountaineer. I checked the wiring under the dash, and see it goes into the loom. Is there anywhere I can look for a bad connection? Or is this going to go directly to the PCM. I'm not looking forward to changing out a PCM....
